2009 Tour of Bright Wrap Up

Wes and I had rolled around town for a warm-up and only just got to the start with about 15 seconds to spare.

Things were easy-as as we rolled out of town – a little bit surge-y in places, but all good.

Reflecting back on this I didn’t have enough water, but had enough fruitcake.

We turned at Ovens and headed up to Rosewhite. A breakaway had formed and stayed away for about 20km but we caught them through the rolling approach to the climb proper.

A guy went off the front to bridge which was foolish in my opinion; he ought to have waited till we caught the escapees.

I was given the (very dubious) honour of taking us off first. This involved one of the team holding my bike in a big straight with about 600 other people, and 600 of us running 500 metres (ostensibly to spread us out) to the bikes…

Snow Shred Late Sept 09 Australia

To be honest, apart from opening weekend (no lifts open), I hadn’t snowboarded all season; frankly, I was really, really jaded. By the industry, by the whole thing.

So, it was a joy to head north once again with Mike B to rendezvous with an almight late September front deigned to smash the Australian Alps. I do have some funny video, which I’ll try and get up in the next week.

How to Race a 24-hour race (with no training)

Now, I don’t know about you, but when I read participation in the context of bikes, I know (and you know) it’s a race.

Participation-partishismation is what I say.

So, when my good mate Matt gmail-chatted me asking if I was in, I said “Sounds ridiculous, and I’m a ridiculous chap, so I’m in.”
