July 18 – Swiss Alps to Bedoin, Mont Ventoux Recce

We awoke this morning to SNOW!! That’s right it had snowed. We got cracking early and found an awesome cafe for … Continue reading

Stage 13 Colmar Vittel, 2009 Tour de France

We awoke to very humid and pre-storm conditions after heavy rain (subsequently cleared) that night. Heading out of town on the tour route, we found a coffee bar, having now find out that they don’t do lattes (particularly soy lattes) in France. We worked out that we had to have espressos with a dash of cream – I took to short blacks very, very quickly. Continue reading

Colmar

It was warm and a tiny bit less muggy in Colmar and we really needed a ride so we headed into town and as luck would have it, found our way onto the tour route.

I really dig Colmar, it’s apparently the Venice of France (not so much, to be honest). Continue reading

Australia, Frankfurt Airport, Campervans and Getting Lost in Strasbourg

Ah, Bourg D’Oisons!
On the tail end of our trip on the 23rd of July, I FINALLY have a chance to sit down and type out what we have been up to. As I previously mentioned, we have really struggled to find reliable and free wifi (I object to paying for it, especially in paid-for camping grounds – that however will be the subject of a new web project for me). Continue reading

Home, TDF Tips ebook guide

Well, we are home from our delightful trip to France, so I am busy pulling all the photos and video together – posts are done.

So, it was an awesome trip, there were a bunch of things I didn’t do right – little pitfalls, unforeseen things etc that I didn’t foresee or think about. So to help prevent others falling into that trip, I’ve written a guide/ebook… Continue reading

Stage 16 from Petite St Bernard, stolen camera

Again, sincere apologies for lack of delays, my access to wifi on a reliable basis is severely constrained. Anyway, here’s a photo from the Martigny to Col du Petite St Bernard stage (16) – the main protagonists – Andy Schleck, … Continue reading

Update (finally): Colmar-Suisse-France

Finally, we have an update! Wifi is super sparse if you’re not in a hotel, so I’ve been surviving (ha ha) using Twitter photos (and blowing out on data use).

Anyway, we have loads of pictures and reporting to do, but I’m sneaking some Wifi outside a bar in Montelimar so need to make this quick. I’ll process the photos tonight and get them ready. Continue reading

Report from Le Tour – Colmar

Bonsoir tout le monde!

D’accord, d’accord, I have not been slack. Au contraire, so far all we’ve done is get lost in Strasbourg (twice – thank God for Google Maps on iPhone!), visit some of Michael’s business suppliers in Strasbourg (and had a beautiful lunch [link]), and gotten ourselves to delightful Colmar for Stage 13. Pretty much I’ve worked out Michael shouldn’t be in charge of any navigational duties. Especially when a sign says “train station this way” and he insists it’s in the opposite direction. Continue reading

Planning the Ventoux+camping

As I mentioned in a previous posts here and here, I am putting a lot of thinking into planning this trip; particularly in regard of positioning on the alps in the three big stages – Stage 16, Stage 17 and … Continue reading

Schnell Cadel Tshirt

I really want Cadel Evans to win this tour. I feel for him too – 23 seconds (on bonuses!) and 53 odd seconds is very close. I admire his guts and grit, and really he has a supreme physiology. He has suffered from poor recruitment decisions (I believe) and some bad luck. A win would be talent and promise fulfilled. Continue reading
