Thanks for checking back, I appreciate it!
Well, since I shut down my baby last week, a load has been lifted from my shoulders.
To be honest, apart from opening weekend (no lifts open), I hadn’t snowboarded all season; frankly, I was really, really jaded. By the industry, by the whole thing. Heresy had overwhelmed (underwhelmed?) me. And it affected my desire to snowboard. That, coupled with some very good results in my first season of road cycle racing, kept me home.
So, it was a joy to head north once again with the inimitable Mike B to rendezvous with an almighty late September front deigned to smash the Australian Alps. I do have some funny video, which I’ll try and get up in the next week.
Anyway, it was good to be back on fresh snow. Despite the variable clear/whiteout/snow conditions, it sure was fun to be rooping down the runs in fresh, deep, light snow. I had forgotten the joy and elation you get from fresh pow. It’s been a lean year for Oz snow, and will only get worse.
NZ is starting to look a very, very good proposition for lifts and heli days, so my question is, how will the dinosaur Australian industry react?
Time will tell (I’m guessing they won’t, so it’s important to enjoy this while we have it).
Anyway, here are the photos – sorry about the contrast (or lack thereof), I simply don’t have time!
Oh, one last thing: coffee.
We tried Milch @ Falls, Svarmisk @ Me Beauty. You can read the reviews here.
Hurry, Hurry!

Looking good.

Outside Lakeside.

If you podcast Kevin and Bean on KROQ (LA radio, awesome, podcast it NOW!), you’ll get this: “FallsCreekFallsCreekFallsCReeeeeek! Oh, shred times, are gonna happennnn, gobble, gobble.”
Hahaha.

Stairway to Heaven…. BOOM! That JUST happened.

Poor contrast, but trust me when I say this was deep.

Crikey!

The Good Ship SS NinjaBrown.

Browner.

This is crazy good.

Shred fields.

Falls village, from the summit. We (by we, I mean, I made Michael – he needs to lean up anyway) bootpacked 20 mins to score this. We’re number 1! We’re number 1!

You can’t see it because I am too lazy to adjust the contrast before exporting them, but this was AWESOME.

So was this. Back up the summit. First tracks mofos!

There was a lot of snow.

C’est moi, le skinny shred-ninja.

Fini!

I’m here running the air conditioner all they long and you’re in deep snow. I bet this was fun. I like the “Stairway to Heaven” shot.
