Thanks for checking back, I appreciate it!
July 19 – Bedoin, Montelimar
After having camped up at free parking-only camping at the main camp ground in Bedoin, we headed for breakfast at the Hotel de Relais in the main drag in Bedoin and had very good coffee. We started off trying cafe au lait, trying to get all latte-like, but the French don’t have a bar of that. It’s noisettes (espressos), or cafe (black) or I ask for cafe with creme.
We head across to Montelimar through Orange and some other towns, and arrive to zillions of cyclists. There is a big buzz in town for L’Etape. Montelimar is a lovely town, it’s a contrast of newer more modern conveniences and shops, co-existing with very old cobblestone etc architecture and narrow streets. I like it, a lot. It’s got a nice disposition.

We sign in, which is crazy, cruise along the sponsor’s tents, buying some stuff, then nick off home.

I (as it turns out, foolishly) do another recce of Ventoux, but this time only to Reynard.
We again do pizza for dinner, then hit the sack early as we need to be out of town at 6AM on the dot for Maulacene, where we’ll be parking then riding another 25km from, to meet L’Etape at Nyons.
There are some really nice towns in this area – Orange, Montelimar, Maulecene, Nyons – worth coming back.
